#228. Extra large stamped and tinted brass button of an escutcheon of a St. Bernard dog with faceted steel eyes, wearing a rescue barrel collar, on top of a brass leaf. It is said that the iconic wooden barrel hung with a leather strap around a St. Bernards neck contained Brandy and thisserved to provide warmth to travelers who were crossing through the snow and gave time for humans to arrive at their destination Same dog head in pewter BBB plate 115 # 4. Was most likely 1/2 of a closing but is recognized in NBS competition as a button since the shank is in the center. NBS Large (2 1/4")
