#28. Late 17th -18th c. smugglers button. Highly collectible! This one is gilded silver and a gemstone. Smuggler’s buttons have a center part that unscrews from the shank to reveal a secret smuggling compartment but the posts of the screw are delicate. We have not opened this one. If the screw gets stripped you would not be able to put the button back together again. NBS Medium (7/8”)
