#269. Two 18th c. French Buttons - one is a Passementerie button - Tarnished silver & gold bullion threads over wood with sequins, a thread back and a metal rim. Included is a spider mounting mechanism so the threads do not get destroyed when mounting on a card. The other button is Repoussé with a bone back. Repoussé is a method of decorating metals in which parts of the design are raised in relief from the back or the inside of the article by means of hammers and punches; definition and detail can then be added from the front by chasing or engraving.
